International Conferences for UN Reform 2010-2011

Dr Yiorghos Leventis, ISF Director, participated upon invitation in the International Conference for United Nations Reform held in Tripoli, Libya, 23-25 September 2010. The International Conference for United Nations Reform is an international initiative developed in partnership with international alliances of organizations in the world working on human rights and democratic transition. The goal is to develop a new democratic dimension in the United Nations that is based on the principles of equality, peace and justice. The conference examined tangible examples of democratic reform at the national and international level, including an active civil society, free media and responsive government. Participants included representatives of international NGOs concerned with and actively engaged in promoting the reform of the UN system.

Dr Yiorghos Leventis was elected in the Preparatory Committee charged with preparing a wider international conference on UN Reform in spring 2011. The Preparatory Committee will re-convene in November 2010 to take further steps towards convening the broad-based spring conference.

Further details will be published in this section as they become available.
