Maria Christofide holds a BA in Economic and Political Studies (specialisation in Politics, University of Manchester, 2008) and a MSc in Comparative Politics (Conflict Studies stream) from the London School of Economics (2013).  Apart from her native Greek she is fluent in English and also speaks French. She completed a two month internship at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Cyprus in August 2010. Maria has joined International Security Forum as Junior Research Associate in March 2013.

Prof. Yiorghos Leventis, Director of the International Forum completed successfully a two-week mission to Italy and Switzerland. He participated upon invitation in the ISODARCO Winter Course on New Military Technologies www.isodacro.it held at Andalo, Trento between 6-13 January.

Subsequently, Prof. Leventis traveled to Milano for a scheduled meeting with Professor Paolo Cotta-Ramusino with whom he engaged in consultations on the idea of convening a high level conference on promotion of the goal of establishing a Weapons of Mass Destruction Free Zone (WMDFZ) in the Middle East. Prof. Ramusino is the Secretary General of Pugwash Conferences on Science and World Affairs www.pugwash.org. Pugwash Conferences won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1995.

The International Security Forum (ISF) in association with the Kyrenia Rotary Club organizes an evening lecture on Neo-Ottomanism: Turkey's Foreign Policy on Monday, 12 November 2012, 8pm at Cleopatra Hotel situated in the centre of the capital Lefkosia.

Our distinguished Guest Speaker is Professor Darko Tanaskovic, University of Belgrade, Serbia. A fluent Turkish speaker, Professor Tanaskovic is an expert on Oriental including Turkish Affairs. Importantly, he served as Yugoslavia's ambassador in Ankara accredited also to Baku, Azerbaijan (1994-99) while more recently he was Serbia's ambassador at the Holy See (2002-08). The lecture to be delivered in English will be followed by a questions and answers session.

Dr Yiorghos Leventis, Director of International Security Forum, participated upon invitation extended by Mr. Hiroshi Toda, Japanese Ambassador to Greece and Cyprus, in the international symposium which discussed the subject of Prospects on Economic Integration in East Asia: Implications from and to Europe in the Time of Debt Crisis. The Embassy of Japan in Athens and the Hellenic Foundation for European and Foreign Policy (ELIAMEP) organized this event on the 4th of October 2012 at the Conference Hall, Press Centre of the Secretariat General of Information and Communication and Mass Media, Athens.

Dr Yiorghos Leventis, Director of International Security Forum joined the Metropolitan Bishop Chrysostomos of Kyrenia, in his capacity as Chief Advisor in Interreligious and Intercultural Dialogue, to a visit in Cairo, 2-5 September. The two Cypriot delegates participated in the 31st Ecumenical Meeting of Bishops which saw a week of deliberations on interfaith dialogue under the title Meet your neighbour with love. The meeting was well-attended by over thirty bishops and other interested clergy and laymen/women of various Christian denominations.
